The Church of Christ started in Apopka in 1964, through the personal work of Brother Lester Starling of Ocoee, Fl, in his making contact with Maxwell Howard. He extended an invitation to Brother Maxwell Howard to attend a gospel meeting at the Mount Dora Church of Christ.
Brother Jessie T. Burslong ran a meeting at the Recreational Center in Apopka, with Maxwell Howard and Douglas Jones becoming the first members. They met in the house of Maxwell Howard, along with E.B. and Betty Davis and their children, who had placed their membership. Four precious souls were added to the church: Elder Keys and his family, Florine Alexander, and Danny & Eugene Davis. We were led by Brother Lester Starling and his father, Brother QT Starling, until a minister was selected. The church moved to its present location in the late 1960's. Brother Leroy Cobb was our first preacher. He was followed by Brother T. Major and later Brother Clarence E. Bell. Brother Leonard Thomas labored with us from the late 70's to the early 90's. Brother Renard V. McFarland, Sr. began his work with us on May 9, 1993.

The Tenth Street Church of Christ began its journey toward building May 22, 1994 with our first bulletin encouraging our members to give toward the Building Fund. We started with a goal of $15.00 per sunday. Looking to God where all of our help comes, we now have a goal of $450.00 per Sunday. We are witnesses of the blessings our Father has promised to his children, those who obey him and keep his commandments. The Lord blessed us with a vision to take God's people to higher heights. Solomon states in the book of Proverbs 29.18 "where there is no vision, the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." We are excited that God has chosen us as an instrument in his mighty hands. We thank Him for enabling us to complete this great task as we continue a great work in the city of Apopka. Out of the storms of September, 2004 we dedicated our new edifice in praise to him from whom all blessings flow.

Under his leadership we've made extensive improvements to the interior and exterior of the building and bought property located at the rear of the building. We have a monthly personal work day, annual senior citizen day, vacation bible school, teachers' appreciation luncheon and weekly bible classes. Over 100 precious souls have obeyed the gospel under his preaching. The church was incorporated in 1995.
